MODULE 4

In this module, we focused on how to use interactive tools to create assessments that are both effective and engaging for students. We learned how to use platforms like Quizalize, Kahoot, Blooket, and Questionwell, ChatGPT to develop rubrics, quizzes, and exams quickly and creatively. The main idea was to explore how these tools can offer more dynamic and motivating learning experiences. For example, we transformed quizzes into games with Kahoot and Blooket, which made the evaluation process more fun and effective. Additionally, we explored how these tools allow us to obtain precise and personalized results to identify areas where students need more support. The main objective of this module was to learn how to create formative and summative assessments using different technological tools, thus facilitating the creation of tests that are effective but also easy and quick to implement. We also emphasized the importance of including various tools and techniques to keep students motivated and engaged in learning.

 Development

During the module, key concepts learned focused on the creation and application of both formative and summative assessments, with a specific focus on using technological tools to make the assessment process more effective and engaging. Taking into account that formative evaluations help identify areas of improvement in real-time and allow progressive development of skills. In contrast, summative assessments, such as final exams, provide an overview of progress and learning effectiveness. Both are essential: the formative ones adjust the teaching process and the summative ones evaluate the final performance of the students. Implementing them effectively ensures meaningful learning.

We learned how to use platforms like Quizalize and Blooket to create quizzes that not only test knowledge but also foster a fun and dynamic learning experience. We explored how tools like Kahoot! and Quizizz can be used to carry out continuous assessment activities. These tools allow for constant review of learning and provide immediate feedback that helps students identify areas for improvement.

The importance of providing continuous and adaptive feedback during the learning process was highlighted. Formative assessments allow us to adjust our teaching in real time, addressing the specific needs of students and facilitating more personalized learning.

We discussed the importance of careful planning for summative assessments. This includes establishing clear assessment criteria and designing activities that accurately reflect students' knowledge and skills.

The use of artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, was explored to provide detailed and personalized feedback on assessments. Implementing formative and summative assessments with technological tools challenged and expanded my understanding of English and language teaching. First, the use of tools like Quizalize and Kahoot! for formative assessments changed my vision of what they should be like. I used to think that assessments were mainly traditional exams and static exercises, but now I see how they can be more dynamic and participatory. The immediate feedback these tools offer showed me the importance of giving feedback at the right time, something I should have considered before.

I plan to apply these concepts in my future teaching in several ways. First, I will integrate technological tools into both formative and summative assessments. I will use platforms like Quizalize, Blooket, and Kahoot! to create interactive quizzes that not only make learning more dynamic but also provide immediate feedback to students. This will allow students to identify their areas of improvement in real time and adjust their learning accordingly.

Additionally, I will design assessments that not only measure knowledge but also evaluate the practical application of the content. Summative assessments will be more than traditional exams; they will include projects and presentations that allow students to demonstrate their understanding in creative and practical ways. I will incorporate artificial intelligence to offer detailed and personalized feedback, helping students better understand their strengths and areas for improvement.

 Conclusion and key learnings

The knowledge acquired in this module will influence my teaching method. I have learned to incorporate digital technologies and tools more effectively, which will transform how I present information and how I interact with students. For example, when using platforms like Kahoot! and Quizalize for assessments, I can make learning more dynamic and engaging. These tools allow for quick and detailed feedback, which will help me identify areas of student difficulty and adjust my approach in real time.

One way it will influence my teaching method is the integration of continuous assessments instead of just final exams. By implementing regular formative assessments, I will be able to monitor students' progress more effectively and provide them with additional support when they need it. This will also help me adapt my teaching to address specific areas where students may find difficulty.

As for a specific lesson where I can apply these concepts, I imagine an activity where students must complete a project on a topic in English. In this lesson, I could use a detailed rubric to evaluate both the quality of their presentation and their ability to use financial vocabulary correctly. Additionally, I would incorporate a formative quiz at the beginning to assess their initial understanding of the topic and another at the end to measure how much they have learned during the lesson. Not only will this allow me to track their progress, but it will also give students a clear idea of how they will be assessed and what areas they need to improve.

In conclusion, this module has been instrumental in improving my approach to creating both formative and summative assessments. I have learned how to design exams, quizzes, and rubrics that not only measure students' knowledge effectively but also give them clear guidance about what is expected of them. This ability to create well-structured and specific assessments will allow me to implement more precise and useful teaching methods.

Incorporation of content created with AI

In this module, I learned how to use various tools to create evaluations quickly and creatively. For example, I used Quizalize to create a quiz. This tool allowed me to do it quickly and efficiently, and then I exported it for printing. In addition, Quizalize makes it easier to take short exams in a more practical and fun way with students, as it offers game options and also allows you to export the results in Excel format, which is great because it shows who needs personalized help. Then I exported the same quiz to Kahoot and turned it into a game. It was a great option because it allowed me to create the quiz quickly by simply uploading the spreadsheet. I also exported the quiz to Blooket, which was fascinating because the different games offered different, more meaningful learning for the students.

Then, I learned how to use Questionwell, a tool that allows you to export to Kahoot, Quizizz, Canvas, Blooket, and Quizlet, among many others. This tool surprised me because I could create short exams based on videos with transcripts, and the results were very good. In addition, we can upload texts or PDFs, although some functions are not free. I selected a video, generated some questions, and then exported it to Google Docs with fascinating results. We also explored Twee, a complete tool for creating different types of assessments and dynamic activities. I had the opportunity to create materials with Twee and I loved the results. On the other hand, Quizizz allowed me to creatively create quizzes based on PDFs and also evaluate them in the classroom, which I liked. Finally, I used ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude to create effective rubrics for proper grading. These tools, along with Quick Rubric, helped me create useful rubrics and combine different applications to get great results. Additionally, I learned techniques for creating good prompts that students can use to practice on their own. It is important to educate students to use prompts appropriately and receive effective feedback.

I decided to include this content because I learned how to use innovative tools to design evaluations efficiently and creatively. For example, I used Quizalize to create quick quizzes that I turned into interactive games with Kahoot and Blooket, making the assessments more engaging. I also explored tools like Questionwell and Twee, which allowed me to develop interactive materials and exams. This reflects how I can apply what I have learned to improve the way I assess students. By using these tools, I can offer more varied and dynamic assessments, which will make learning more interesting and effective for my students.
